You can make an expense list and buy whatever you need. Whenever you reach your total budget for rabbits, don't buy anymore.

What do mean by "products"? Basics like cage, feeder, etc.? It's hard to go cheap on a cage. An indoor rabbit needs a cage with a pan underneath to catch urine and droppings, and urine guards in the cage to redirect urine to the pan, rather then on the floor, when urinating in the corners. Simple crocks can be used for food and water; I buy ceramic cat bowls at one of those dollar-type stores for $1 each, and they are dishwasher safe. (Dog bowls will work fine, too, for a mini lop.) If outdoors, the cage doesn't need a pan, but does need to be in a protected area out of the sun, rain, and wind. Dogs can be a problem, so behind a fence is a good thing. In the summer, the rabbit must be kept cool, or it will die. A 2-liter bottle of frozen water can give a rabbit something cool to lay against. Air circulation in the heat is a must. Don't scrimp on food, buy the best you can get. If you have only one rabbit, the food cost should be minimal. Don't buy too much feed at once, but only what your rabbit can use in about a month or two, and store it in an airtight container. (Coffee cans can be used for this, as can other containers; no need to go out and spend money if you don't need to!) Hay is another thing rabbits like. You can buy bags of timothy, or buy the compacted alfalfa cubes. Feed can be bought at a variety of places, a discount store is your best bet. Also try feed stores, some will sell rabbit feed by the pound, instead of making you buy a 25 or 50 pound bag. (Feed this way is usually cheaper then in any store.) Toys don't have to be expensive, either. Our rabbits love toilet paper rolls. I've also bought several packages of cat toys, the balls with the bell inside. Some of our rabbits love them, others don't. They are inexpensive, but noisy. An empty lunch sack opened up is something else rabbits like to play with. You can also try an empty oatmeal container. I hope this has been a help. Remember that on the cage, it may seem like a lot to begin with, but it is a one-time purchase item, and should last for the life of your rabbit. -------------------- Country Gardens Rabbitry
